The Power Nap Is … Simply Put, Powerful

I just woke up from a nap and I posted about it on LinkedIn. Complete vulnerability. And the outpouring of support blew my mind …

As a new member of the 5:30am Club, my day started with a weighted-vest walk (book club pick “A Different Kind of Power” by Jacinda Ardern in my ears), followed by a productive morning at my favorite local work spot where I knocked out 80% of my to-dos.

By early afternoon, I felt the dip; instead of pushing through, I took a 20-minute Power Nap. That short reset gave me clarity, energy, and focus for the rest of the day.

It reminded me of Arianna Huffington’s Sleep Revolution in 2016, when she pushed to normalize naps at work. Nap rooms were set up at HuffPost and leadership openly encouraged employees to use them. She knew (from personal experience and science) that sleep deprivation isn’t a badge of honor, it’s a productivity killer and a culture killer.

Self-care isn’t indulgent. It’s fuel for better leadership, sharper thinking, and a healthier workplace culture.

So here’s my takeaway:
🌿 Rest is productive.
🌿 Leaders set the tone for wellness.
🌿 A thriving culture allows people to show up at their best.

Now, back to work; maybe even a mahjong game tonight.
