Six Years Later: Friday, March 13
Six years ago today, Friday, March 13, 2020, I took this “last day” photo.
Kids with backpacks.
A quick wave goodbye.
“We’ll see you in a couple of weeks.”
But we all know what happened next.
The world paused in a way none of us had ever experienced before.
Fear.
Uncertainty.
Distance from the people we love.
And yet, if we’re honest, something else happened too.
We adapted.
We learned how to do hard things.
We found new ways to connect.
We watched artists perform from their kitchens and late-night hosts broadcast from their living rooms.
We learned Zoom before most of us even knew what Zoom was.
Many of us slowed down.
We listened more.
We reflected more.
For me, it was a reminder that life doesn’t always move in straight lines — and sometimes the unexpected pause teaches us the most.
With my coaching hat on, I think about that time often.
Not just the challenge of it — but the resilience it revealed in all of us.
So six years later, the question I keep coming back to is this:
What did we learn that we’re still carrying forward?
Maybe it’s:
Appreciating the small moments
Staying connected even when it’s not convenient
Trying new ways of working and living
Remembering that we’re stronger than we think
This “last day” photo still sits in my camera roll.
Back then we didn’t know what was coming.
But we learned something powerful along the way:
We can adapt. We can grow. And we can move forward — together.
